I am the less wealthy class They put me to clean and cook When others come over, But I think, And I know It'll get better. Soon, I'll be in a building People will work for me. Never again Will I be told, To clean other's messes Now. After, My accomplishments will be known And they'll be embarrassed - I, too am American

To be american means to be born in the United States. If you are born in Canada or Mexico you are not considered American. Most Americans don't have big financial problems (money). Usually people automatically think you're American if your white. "The American Life" is something from movies and TV shows. It's basically the idea of people thinking if you are from America you live a perfect life and have a lot of money.
